The trouble is, that pics of badgers with TB appear to 'offend' family newspapers, and with very few exceptions (an editor in an armlock maybe ?? !! )it is difficult, if not impossible to get them printed. Thus the badger 'library' shots are of bright eyed bushy tailed individuals who are probably perfectly fit and well.

Glad Mr. Sainsbury did the SVS and farmers proud. Have a whole load of Badger Trust press releases, full of emotive, exagerated and unchallenged 'facts'. (Like the 14 million animal movements, which turned out to 2.4 million + 420,000 calves under 42 days - and millions of data postcards)

Our Trevor is hooked on cattle movement, and with the spoligotype data to offset this, we wonder why. But on the other hand it's what he's paid to do. Linked holdings and off land does not apply to the moderators of this site - and we have still got years of Tb restriction under our belts with home bred herds.

Agree about cattle vaccines - so does VAWM - The Veterinary Association of Wildlife Management - who go so far as to describe it as a 'daft idea', which would not work anyway in the face of such an enormous challenge from infected wildlife.

Protecting clean badgers (by vaccination) from their infected mates is a concept we would support. But the Badger Trust make no mention of it. Well they wouldn't, would they? Healthy badgers and no conflict = no jobs.

Did we say beneficial crisis? Naaah.
Yes we did.Matthewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09293505337441558637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6885842.post-15372084381214703522008-02-27T13:50:00.000+00:002008-02-27T13:50:00.000+00:00A very strong performance from Roger Sainsbury (ex...A very strong performance from Roger Sainsbury (ex VO, Truro)on Radio Cornwall's Laurence Reed show, championing the cause of farmers.

He was preceded by Trevor Lawson who spouted out the usual Badger Trust spin, half-truths and misinformation.

A couple of additional points, until there is a guaranteed 100% efficient vaccine, vaccination CANNOT be used. Any vaccinated animal will show as a Reactor if tested as it should have the antibodies. BCG, the human TB vaccine is less than 80% efficient.

Badgers are suffering terrible deaths from TB, and there is a gross over-population of not very healthy badgers (which live in crowded underground conditions - moist and warm - ideal for breeding and spreading TB among the sett - plus they fight and bite, infecting each other with saliva through bite wounds).

Also with the now unnaturally high numbers of badgers, hedgehogs, ground nesting birds, hares and other species are fast disappearing, but who's going to speak out loudly against the lovely Holstein foxes.Merlinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04867152605021855182noreply@blogger.com
