I was very struck by the descriptions of the dying/recently dead badgers and the suffering they must have endured. It's hard to argue with the idea that it must be kinder to put a TB badger out of its misery. And we all know that the Badger Trust accepts the notion that it's OK to cull an animal that is going to die anyway. At least, that's what they say about cattle.Jimnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6885842.post-63878719477833463842009-11-19T17:40:49.025+00:002009-11-19T17:40:49.025+00:00Anon @:10.53

As we said, initially it will be available to vets.
But we agree that the suffering of badgers with TB has been played down for too long.

Anon @ 11.02, and 11. 58.

The last comment we understand to be correct in that the NFU were to have co-financed Mr. Chapman's film. For reasons best known to themselves, they pulled out and made their own (with the NFU logo featuring prominently) which was launched on www.countrychannel.TV internet site on September 22nd with a premier at the Dairy Event, Stoneleigh.

Farmers Guardian and British Dairying will both cover the launch in their coming issues. Can't speak for any other publication, or for cash from anywhere.
It's in pretty short supply.

I think what came out of the launch meeting for the film and the management concept, was a feeling of hope. That farmers could possibly take back control of this disease, and do something for themselves, having given up on the idea that Defra would grasp this particular nettle any time soon.Matthewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09293505337441558637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6885842.post-75819444956179967832009-11-19T11:58:28.578+00:002009-11-19T11:58:28.578+00:00I believe the NFU were going to help fund this fil...I believe the NFU were going to help fund this film and then pulled out. It has been made despite the difficulty in funding, in the need to bring the facts about this awful disease to more people - hopefully the masses.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6885842.post-17086333580328970312009-11-19T11:02:27.295+00:002009-11-19T11:02:27.295+00:00Perhaps the NFU / NBA / Farmers Guardian / Farmers...Perhaps the NFU / NBA / Farmers Guardian / Farmers Weekly can finance the production and distribution of the film via DVD ?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6885842.post-13181978296379284242009-11-19T10:53:09.582+00:002009-11-19T10:53:09.582+00:00" An introduction by Richard Gard, an agricul..." An introduction by Richard Gard, an agricultural journalist with an interest in animal diseases, described how after seeing a short introductory piece, all major television channels had turned down the film. Too hot to handle? The footage of emaciated badgers which had died in dire straights was not what people would have expected from the ever rattling tins of the Wildlife and Badger groups. But that is what their ultimate protection of this species has delivered. So while the carnage of FMD were brought nightly to our screens by most TV channels, the equally destructive salami sliced effects of bTB on our cattle herds and those who tend them, are ignored.
